Pena Adobe Receives Grant from Bank of America
The Pena Adobe Historical Society is the recent recipient of a $500 grant from Bank of America.
The Pena Adobe Historical Society was established in 2004, staffed by volunteers, this nonprofit organization is committed to preserving the Pena Adobe Park in Vacaville and has initiated restoration projects and educational programs. The center of attraction at the park is one of the oldest structures in Solano County, built in 1842 by the first settlers of European ancestry to come to Vacaville, the historic Pena Adobe. The park also includes the Mowers-Goheen Museum, the Willis Linn Jepson Memorial Garden, Indian Council Ground and picnic and recreation facilities.
The grant comes from Bank of America’s Employee Volunteer Award program, whereby employees and bank retirees who volunteer can have the bank direct $500 in the form of a grant to a local charity of their choice and made in their name. It’s just one of a few ways Bank of America encourages and supports volunteerism among its retirees and employees. Each year on average, Bank of America employees and retirees volunteer 2 million hours supporting thousands of organizations around the world. The Bank of America Charitable Foundation honors this dedication through volunteer grants.
The Pena Adobe and Mowers-Goheen Museum, are open, free of charge, the first Saturday of the month April thru November from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Student and private tours are available upon request with interpretive programs provided by the Pena Adobe Historical Society.
